Do's & Don'ts for Trouble-Free Disposer Operation

Do:

  • Run your garbage disposal regularly with cold water. Let cold water run for a few seconds after grinding is complete.
  • See instructions on your specific model for what types of food you can grind.
  • Grind peelings from citrus fruits to freshen up drain smells.

Don't:

  • Pour grease or fat down a disposer or any drain. It can build up in pipes and cause drain blockages.
  • Use hot water when grinding food waste. It is ok to drain hot water into the disposer between grinding periods.
  • Turn off the motor or water until grinding is completed.

inSinkerator Hot Water Dispensers

Installing an InSinkErator Hot Water Dispenser

InSinkErator instant hot water dispensers deliver near-boiling water right at the kitchen sink using an under-the-sink tank that heats the water to approximately 200° F. All InSinkErator hot water dispensers fit a standard 1.5-inch hole on the sink or the countertop, which makes them easy to install or replace.

Proper safety precautions should be followed when installing or replacing a hot water dispenser.
