Hurricane Scale & Catagory Grades

Minor damage to buildings. Shrubbery, trees, and manufactured unanchored homes will sustain some damage.
Roofing, doors, and windows sustain some damage while piers, vegetation, and manufactured unanchored homes sustain considerable damage. Some coastal escape routes flood and small craft in unprotected anchorages break moorings.
Manufactured unanchored homes may be destroyed and flooding may demolish smaller structures near the coast. Land lower than 5 feet above sea level may be flooded as far as 8 miles inland.
Major erosion to beaches and damage to lower floors of structures near the coast occurs. Land lower than 10 feet above sea level may be flooded requiring large evacuation of residential areas as far as 6 miles inland.
Roof failure on many residences and industrial buildings. Major damage to lower floors of all structures located less than 15 feet above sea level and within 500 yards of the shoreline. Massive evacuation may be required for residential areas on low ground within 5 to 10 miles of the coastline.
